Explore our heritage centre

Come down and visit us at Beeston Lock, we are open seven days a week 9:30am - 4:30pm.

Serving history, community and food

The Canalside Heritage Centre is a vibrant hub for visitors to enjoy and explore, with an enticing tea room, welcoming gift shop and interpretation centre, as well as tranquil gardens and lots of activities to delight in.

Enjoy a walk along the river or the canal, either with one of our volunteer walk leaders or at your leisure. Look out for the many boats, enjoy the changing colours and sunshine on the water and enjoy the plentiful wildlife that can be found at any time of year.

Take a stroll along the canal to watch the boats, birds and unwind with the tranquillity of the still waters.

Our exhibitions can be enjoyed for a small fee and you can explore one of the original cottages, taking the twisty staircase upstairs to the Stories of the Cut gallery, filled with a collection of tantalising tales of life in the cottages and here on the canal.

Our story

Their current incarnation was the dream of a local man, living beneath them in a canal boat.

Several years later, thanks to a team of passionate local people and successful funding, the historic cottages have become the Canalside Heritage Centre. A charity with the aim of providing an asset to the local community, a hub for local exploration and an educational facility.

Funders

Our funders, supporters and partneships

The Canalside Heritage centre is a charity, and this restoration project could never have been brought to fruition without the passionate work of many volunteers, and the financial support of many donors, including The Heritage Lottery Fund. We work in partnership with other local groups to provide opportunities for real people.
